if i was gonna do a receiver hitch, i would set it up so the front surface was close to flush with a front opening in the bumper about a foot higher.

pretty sure they are half inch. and my truck was stuck good once and had a buddy yank from it a good number of times and it was fine. i would imagine the brackets themselves would give way at some point though, so i was planning on bracing it up a little bit until i got my bumper.

Yea it's low, but I don't get stuck in mud etc because I don't off road or drive like an idiot- mostly this is for peace of mind. I've been stuck on ice etc plenty of times and had no good place to get pulled from. I also tow frequently and have a hitch mounted bike rack.

this is a good point but id be using it more for pulling other people out, i also have a hitch mount tire carrier and a receiver hitch in the back. the general plan would be keep the winch in the toolbox and put it wherever i need it for winching purposes. also as mentioned by many others, it gives a good point to be towed or pulled out af somewhere if i CANT get myself out.
