Got it. Sometimes you gotta break a screw to get things done... haha. Now it's time for some heavy cleaning. Also gonna spray paint the interior black.

still painting some interior parts. it's not all done but here's somewhat of an update (looks better in person) also- my little cousin and i tackled the coil springs and front shocks last saturday. runs a tad more smooth than the old parts haha. this thing is starting to act and look more like a real truck... unfortunately this past week i noticed a real problem... the dreaded oil pan leak ... my little cousin has the stuff to do it but damn... everything i read tells me that one difficult job. anyway to just weld the hole shut?? (without catching my entire truck on fire) any help appreciated.
Matt

Instead of messing with trying to weld that old rusty *** oil pan. And sand it and paint it to prevent further rust. Just buy a new one that comes with a gasket. They're only about 50 bucks or so.

I've changed out several oil pans before. Not on my truck but on other vehicles. Couldn't imagine it could be any harder. Soak all your oil pan bolts (about 10 or 15) in pb blaster for a couple days. And all you'll need is a ratchet and a socket and some time. Possibly consider changing the oil and filter too unless you just recently changed it.

For these trucks normally the engine has to be lifted up a few inches to get the old oil pan out and around the pickup tube. I haven't done it yet, but I need to replace my gasket soon. I assume you have something else to drive, so just take your time and have the peace of mind knowing it is done correctly. I don't know if you mean that the pan is rusting through ( I live in the south, my truck has nearly zero rust, and what I do have is just some surface rust on the frame in some spots) and the plan is to weld up the soon-to-be holes? Because if that's the plan, good luck not burning holes through that thing with the welder.

I'm with Brandon587, I wouldn't f*** with the headache of welding it if it's rusted so bad it has a hole in it. Just replace the oil pan as I said before they're only 50$ or so.

Need to change oil pan/gasket on my 5.0, too. Leak ain't too bad, so I'm putting it off. It may wait until I rebuild the top end. Subscribed, OP, thanks for posting so much about your rebuild, I've got a similar project in progress.

You have to undo the motor mounts and jack the motor up about 3 -4 inches. Stick some short 4x4's under the motor mounts so it won't fall and crush your fingers.
