This might be a dumb question, but will the heater core be flushed along with the radiator and system during the use of the Prestone flush kit? Or is that a separate job. If so, are there any directions or steps recommended on flushing a heater core?

Flush the core separate. Stick your garden hose in 1 heater hose then the other to make sure you get it back flushed.

When you run the chem through the system it will clean the heater core as well. Best bet is to drain the system, disconnect heater core and flush both sides like chris said, then connect it back up and fill with water and add chemical, run for 2-4 days, then drain system, wouldn't hurt to flush/back flush the heater core with a hose again, replace radiator and anything else your doing, fill with your 50/50. Only do the water and chem if you will not be getting freezing temps during the cycle (being TX I would assume not freezing) but if you will be below freezing then unhook the heater core and flush/back flush without draining the entire system, top it off with water and follow the rest of the steps as normal.

Another quick question:

I just got my radiator today. Should I do all this flushing with the current radiator and then install the new one?

Or do all the flushing only after installing the new one?

Or does it matter?

I would do all of the flushing with the old one. No sense in putting chemicals in your new one when it doesn't need it, but that's just my opinion. At least after you get done with the flush, whatever chunks are in your cooling system that broke loose will be in your old radiator and not your new one.

x2, do with the old one that way your new rad is going into a clean system. It will last much longer if the system is clean (as possible) when installed.
