Question A few questions

Hello,

I have a '93 F-150 extended cab. It has the 302 engine in it, automatic transmission, and around 120,000 miles.

1) I put twelve gallons in my front fuel tank, and I got a total of 241 miles out of it. I know my odometer isn't lying to me because I checked it against mile posts...is there any reason why I should be getting 20 MPG?

2) I have an exhaust leak. Will this mess with my O2 sensors? Do exhaust leaks matter all that much?

3) Which type of transmission do I have? The drivers side door label says "E" under the transmission type, but I'm not sure as to what that means.

4) I get a strange scraping noise under initial acceleration that lasts for about 3/4 of a second (goes away when I get up to speed). What's causing this? Is it my tranny?

5) Does my truck have a governor in it that limits RPM's? What do these trucks typically redline at?

6) My transmission typically shifts between 2,000 - 2,500 RPM's. Is this normal?

7) How fast can I go when I'm using 4WD high?

8) What is overdrive? Is it an additional/really high gear? Can I be in overdrive all the time as long as I'm not towing anything or climbing steep grades?

9) I have some engine hesitation at lower speeds. I've changed my spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and throttle position sensor...which made it better, but didn't solve the problem. Any ideas as to what's causing it?

10) My overdrive light doesn't work. The switch works, but the light does not. Do I need to replace the switch?

Thanks for your time everyone, I really appreciate it.

Here's what I can help with

1) 20 mpg is great fuel mileage I wouldn't change anything

2) if it's right off the manifold or under the cab it's a health issue as exhaust fumes arent good for you, behind the cab doesn't matter

3) e4od I would believe

8) overdrive is good for highway speeds, means the output shaft of the tranny is spinning quicker then the crank/input. Don't use it when your towing

9) you upgraded spark, try the other two, air and fuel. Change the fuel filter and clean out the air filter.

Your getting really good mpg. My little truck with a regular cab and short bed with the same engine gets 11 if i'm lucky.
