Face Palm: I now know why I'm getting crappy mileage

You drove 198 miles on 9.69 gallons of fuel, that netted 20.43 mpg. Very respectable, heck I'd take it. That's an accurate and realistic number. I'd bet if you tracked all your short trip mileage calculations together for a month the overall number would be somewhere about 17 to 18 mpg.

I urge everyone here to do mileage calculations and let's see real numbers. My numbers are as accurate as possible and I've been figuring them for the past two years. Best was 26mpg and worst was 11mpg(truck had serious issues) A local business has a 95 f150 4.9l 5spd that has a factory looking lpg or cng setup with less than 20,000 miles and their monthly fuel cost referenced to fuel consumption monthly is 30-35 mpg. I've inquired about truck but they refuse to sell it.

There's a possibility the gps miles were off, driving on county roads and stuff with not great signal can throw it off. BUT, if not, then good ****. You have a miracle motor. Wish I could say the same lmao.

I had a 94 F150 with a 4.9 and 5 speed tranny in the past and its best highway miles were 21mpg which I thought was great. Average mileage was around 17-18
I now have a 95 F150 with a 5.0 automatic and I get about 15mpg average, havn't checked straight highway yet.
But one thing I have noticed is I check my mileage every fill up and the mpg goes down in the winter by about 2mpg
If your mileage is that good I would say you have a very special truck and would keep it because it would be hard to find another like it.Most people I talk to with these trucks all get about the mpg I referenced.

The 3.08 gear (or lower) is what really does it.
My manual tranny with 302 and 3:55's is sitting around 2100 rpm's at 65mph.
Using an online converter it would run around 1700 rpms with a 3:08.
I am guessing that is good for 3-5mpg right there.
