Default F.N.G. needs some help already.

Ok, so, I'm new to the ford world. Laugh as long as you need to. Now to my problem...the year model of my truck is a 1993, 5.8 engine, auto. The problem I'm having is for some reason it is losing all power, drivetrain wise; engine kills sometimes, when I get going down the road. It only does this when the 'check engine' is off. When it lights up the truck runs fine but has a hard kick coming out of first gear, opposite when it is off. On top of that, if I sit in park and let it idle, when I put it in reverse it idles down real bad and dies. Any help has a thank you in advance. If anyone is having the same or simular problem and can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Moved thread to the appropriate section. You should get a better turn out in the 87-96 section.

start off checking for codes, sounds similar to a trans issue i used to have. got any light on your overdrive selector doing anything? check your trans fluid level and make sure all connectors are tight

The navy ship the marines to the war zone, the army comes behind them to cover thier backs, the air force watches from above. The government pays all of them. They could save alot of money if the just sent my grandma over there with a cast iron skillet.
I think she'll be busy using it to knock some sense into you for some time to come. The Marines will just have to do w/out her, till her mission is complete! They're not holding their breath either. By all means, carry on Grandma! They'll manage. You have a more difficult task at hand! (it was kinda funny though)

I'm not too sure what you mean by the overdrive selector light doing anything. If it helps at all, sometimes I have to turn the overdrive off just to get enough power to keep it running. Once I turn it back on, the truck acts as if I just let off the gas. I have to give it more gas to keep it at a constant speed.

sounds like your trans is causing your issues, either take it to a trans shop or get some trans mission repair manuals for the E4OD. if you're inclined you can do some minor stuff for the trans, like anything in the front pump or the solenoid pack in the bottom. run your codes and see what you come up with

Thanks man. When I get a chance I'll do all the handy dandy stuff and I'll post what the results came to be.

I'd start w/ error code scans, because it's free & the tranny is ECU integrated. The more you know or are able to rule out, the better, before taking it in.
