if you want to keep 4x4, you'll need to get a trans from a 4x4 vehicle. In your case, the best thing to do would be find a used auto trans from a 4x4 vehicle (probably e4od), and swap in your 300. Is your 2wd truck bad enough that you wanna just scrap it? And to go from auto to manual you have to swap in the pedals, all the clutch hardware, transmission crossmember, driveshaft.

Trans needs to be completely disassembled to change the tailshaft to a 4x4 one. Need transfer case adapter. '96 is OBDII and '95 is OBDI so the wiring underhood and in the cab is different. You would have to swap it all and it wouldn't be emissions legal. Better to see about what's involved with the VIN plate at your DMV for a cab swap.

The truck would legally be the '95. A cab is just a part, the VIN plate just happens to be attached to it. I'm not sure how much inside the cab is different, just that they definitely are.

If you convert the trans take pictures and write it up. It's something we talk about a lot on this site.
