Exclamation Engine ticking what causes it

so my engine developed a tick in the front cylinder area ive changed my plugs wire checked my distributor cap and components all fine so i fear its a lifter Im hoping its just stuck or something i can fix easy but what can cause it? the roller the lifter or the spring? if i have to replace one of them should i replace all or will it be fine if i just replace one? I have just 450 set aside for repairs for my truck and with needing a belt tentionor, ecu, wiper switch and re- register it plus a crap load of body work but I'm thinking of "getting a sticker" again until i can do the body work thanks for all the help this forums the best!
