Engine Control Module with different part#

I went to the salvage yard in search of an ECM for my 95 f-150 with 5.0 and AODE trans. There weren't any comparable so I pulled one out of a 96 Crown Vic. with a 5.0 and hoped for the best.
It looks like there are several different ECM options. What will happen if I put one that has a different part number?

Make sure the pinout on the ecu is the same, should work, all Fords have basically the same sensors and stuff, the ecu's are pretty much programmed for the emissions parameters for that vehicle.

Thanks dirtcrew. the pinouts ended up being different. Now...to go for the next round and get the correct one. It was worth a shot. I should have paid a bit more attention to detail when I was getting the ECM though.

The difference is obd1 and obd2, you probably can find an obd1 ecu and try it, is your truck mass air?

The difference seems so obvious with the OBD1 vs. OBD2 now that you mention it. I do have MAF. I guess I will go for round 2 next weekend.
