Fuel System Issues

Fuel System Issues
Greetings, oh Wise Wrench Turners. I'm not a mechanic so use pictures and little words if you respond.
I have a 1988 F150 4X4 302 w/ two gas tanks. I run off of the front tank but my gas gauge does not read the front tank level. I cannot get fuel from the back tank but the gauge reads the back tank.
So far I have:
Checked every fuse I can find.
Pulled the tank selector switch and had it checked by a mechanic and electrician. Works fine.
Pulled the fuel tank selector valve (?), checked & cleaned it. Works fine.
Pulled the front tank sending unit/fuel pump assembly and had it checked by a mechanic and electrician. Works fine.
Ran an an independent ground wire from the fuel tank to the frame. No change.
I have consulted at least 5 full-time, competent local mechanics and so far I get no results with anything I try. I'm open for ideas. Many thanks.

It's old & obsolete, but the fuel system in your truck isn't complicated. If all these "mechanics" can't figure it out, I don't think "competent" is a word I'd use.
But your explanation is vague in a few important areas... What exactly do you mean by "does not read the front tank level"? Does it just stay where it was for the rear tank? Does it drop to E? Does it peg to F? And what do you mean by "cannot get fuel from the back tank"? Have you hot-wired its pump? Have you tried letting it gravity-drain by disconnecting its supply hose from the DFR? How exactly did you check the DFR to determine that it "works fine"?
Start with the words under this picture:

You can ignore most of them, but follow the yellow link in that caption for the DFR in your truck. This album's captions explain the gauge & sender:
