Default E4OD Trans Fluid Poll - Please help me select !

1992 F150 2wd with e4od transmission, installing new trans pan with drain plug and doing full trans service/flush including torque converter. Just bought the truck with 150k, don't know if it's ever been done.

Fluid choices are:
Motorcraft Mercon V
Castrol TransMax High Mileage (which Castrol tells me is Mercon, not Mercon V)
Castol TransMax Dex/Merc
Valvoline/Napa Dex/Merc
Other...and please explain your choice for other.

If money is no object, Mercon V is the safest choice. Everything else is a calculated risk. It could perform better than Mercon V and it could perform worse.

With that being said, the next safest bet is a name brand Dex/Merc.

Documentation says Mercon V only, but any brand of Mercon V should meet the specs.

I'm using Castrol Transmax Mercon V in my 94 E4OD.

Thumbs up

Well, had to make a choice, so went and bought 20 quarts of Mercon V at my local Ford dealer. Price was right, $5.15 per quart.
Thank you all for your advice.

Cheaper than the Castrol I bought at Azone. Nice catch! I'll have to remember that next time my fluid needs changing.

I used Ford Mercon V. It took about 18 quarts I think. I just got 5 a week so it wasn't as huge a hit on my wallet.
