Dual Exhaust 4.9L I6 1994 F150 XL??
 

OK so i want to upgrade my exhaust for cheap and I want to minimize welding maybe even not weld and I want to do it for around $250 or less sooooo I spotted this on JEGs and wanted to know what you all thought about it:

But on top of that I wanted to know what was up with the 2 Cats in front of my muffler.....should I cut one off put that exhaust system on and call it a rap??(technically I would be legal for having a cat and a muffler in Idaho) :thumbup:

Ensure you have a 2 1/4" Outlet on your Catalytic Converter for this exhaust system from Jegs. Measure the exhaust pipe to be sure of the correct size before ordering.

I think the 4.9L has a 2 1/2" outlet on the converter, but I could be wrong...

The Outlet on my aftermarket catalytic converter is 3" OD and so is my exhaust pipe.

The reason you have two Converters is probably why I have two inline converters;
The converter closest to the engine is the original factory converter and it was gutted years ago and an aftermarket converter installed.
The original catalytic converter is part of the 4.9 EFI factory Header.

The 1987-up 4.9 EFI engine has a different exhaust manifold than the 1967-86 300ci 1V carburetor engines had.

The 1987-up 4.9 EFI splits into two exhaust pipes leaving the head and goes into the first catalytic converter and then into a single muffler.

It was easier to cut a section out of the exhaust pipe and add an aftermarket converter than to purchase, remove and install as originally from Ford.

Make sure you are Ordering and Talking about OD and not ID in your measurements.

Get several extra exhaust Clamps also, well I usually need them...

Jegs kit wont work, its made for a 4x2 v8, unless your truck is a 4x2 then you might make it work, you will need a crossover pipe, depends on the state and how they inspect if a truck came with 2 cats you should leave them on, for a -6 you might be happier with a single 2 1\2 exhaust.

what would be the best kit for me if the Jeg kit doesnt work .... or should i just put on a new muffler?? and what is the difference between OD and ID is there much difference .... i just measured the circumference and used some handy math (Pi x Diameter=Circumference) i got 2.38 for end of the second converter soooo 2.5" is what I'm lookin for? what about this spiral flow muffler they sound great... http://www.jegs.com/i/Moroso/710/940...oductId=744819

actually i think they are 2.25" because most sights for the cat back systems for my specific truck all say the converter outlet must be 2.25"..... what do you think if this?

Plus there are no inspections for Idaho and the only way a cop would notice and care if it was just way over the top loud but back off the RPM's and my a few of my friends actually run straight pipes but its not worth the $300 fine for me...plus the jeg kits say 4WD and say there good for a 4.9L soo it looks like to me it will fit....

Ok, that looks good. Usually the exhaust pipe is measured in od, fittings are measured id, the spiral flow is a racing muffler, the best thing to do is if you are only going to run 1 cat, measure down pipe, get an adapter from that to 2 1\2 od, get a 2 1\2 cat, muffler, 3 -24" extension pipes, and a 90deg elbow,2 hangers, and clamps, I did an exhaust from Advance Auto for $60.00 with the muffler, cat back, the pipe exits in front of the rear tires.

what do you think of this little plan... series 44 flowmaster or the spiral flow (both are about 19" total length) then keep the rest stock but the original muffler is like 30" long so what do you think i should do from there?

Put new muff on, small extension, elbow, exit in front of wheel, better sound. Besides the rear exit pipe is just another thing to rust. and it cost more than a whole front exit system.

i heard its illegal for the exhaust to exit in front of rear wheel ??? is this true?and flow master super 44 or spiral flow?

Looks like i am gona go Super 44 and extension to exhaust outlet behind tire so the fumes of the exhaust dont get on my tire or nothin plus it will just be easier...keeping the two cats :/
