dreaded oil pan gasket

Default dreaded oil pan gasket

as the title says, i need the gasket replaced. i had every intention on doing it myself until i actually got under my truck. ugh... anyway, i need a mechanics opinion on how much it'll cost at a shop. and i dont mean an ally mechanic either. sorry if that sounds rude. i just need a real quote and seeing as i was on this site at the moment id thought id ask

All depends on the shop. My guess is around $50-100. I did mine my self when I worked at a shop.

If you don't mind me asking why does replacing an oil pan gasket suck so much?

You have to undo the engine mounts, remove the fan, loosen the transmission mounts, and jack up the engine to clear the oil sump tube.

Drop the pan 2 inches and coat it in RTV. Problem solved.

i didnt have to do all that when i replaced mine. i just dropped the pan as far as it would go. since i had the one piece gasket i just worked it up from the bottom around the pan til it was on top and put the bolts back in. i didnt think it was so bad

i did none of this.

i dropped the pan and used a bent metal hanger to maneuver the gasket under the pump and into position. though that was on a 5.0 mustang

so jacking it isnt required and i can just fish it around the pump? that is SOOOO much easier. thank you

about how long does this take given i only have minimal room in the garage and little jack stands?
