if it is a LS system in there then some one put it there. i have yet to come across a TTB with LS in the front. second if you dont wanna pull it to check but want to be on the safe side. when you change the fluid put some friction modifier in there anyways its either going to help you or not do anything at all.

I agree with Fordtrucknut, I have never heard of Ford putting LS in the front diff. If someone added it aftermarket style, why did they overlook the more common place to install it, in the back.

Going back to his original question about the direction of the wheels turning by hand rotation. Thats interesting, something in my gutt is telling me its normal because the driveshaft is freewheeling. Perhaps he should prevent it from turning and then see what happens.

Actually my first inclination was to add a device to the front first due to bad manners on the road of a locker in the rear.

As I said, when I turn the driveshaft, passenger side turns, when I put resistance on drivers side, it begins to turn in the same direction also.

I would be interesting for me to find out if anyone else has an LS device up front and if it behaves similarly.

Do you have auto or manual hubs? I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not but it's worth a shot.

Brody,, I appreciate your input. The hubs are manual and they are fine. At this point I'm thinking of sticking a boroscope in there and looking, or changing the oil and just putting the friction modifier whether it needs it or not.

1 quick thing, if you turn one wheel and the other goes the opposite way, that's LS man. If it's open only the wheel you're spinning will spin and the other will do nothing

Something else has got to spin. It cant just be one wheel. There HAS to be 2 shafts out of the 4 rings that spin.

Putting in the lube with an LS label won't hurt an open diff at all, but sounds like you already know that, and are more curious about whats in it, I would be at this point to. I just pulled mine, and its isn't fast or fun due to the need for tearing the wheel hubs down, and breaking down the passenger side axle boot. I wouldn't be curious enough to go through all that. I'm like you I would try to find out with some apparatus through the front fill hole.

I've watched our farm tractor spin tires that way, my truck with LS do that, and spun my buddies open ended chevy. 2 wheels spinning opposite ways is LS.

if you spin 1 of the tires back and forth fast then hear a click, you got a locking dif (most likely) im about 90% sure its locking. if they turn opposite directions then you got a LSD, different ways then you got a locking.
