Default Do I have a TracLoc?

Cleaning and painting up front using elbow grease and a high speed with a wire brush so I'm working on the floor.

Here's the set up:

Front tires off, beams sitting on jack stands.

Here's what it does:

I turn the passenger side axle in forward direction by hand- just that side turns.

I turn the passenger side axle by hand and put mild resistance on the driver side axle and it begins to turn in the same direction as if locked.

Visa versa the other way.

Finally, there is a bead of sealant not factory around the diff housing.

isn't track lock a system that locks the front brakes and lets the rear spin free to heat up the tires? it sounds like you are describing a locker set up or limited slip diff

Its an open diff up front. When you spun both the same direction, did the driveshaft turn?? If so its open. The sealant should be there. At least i hope so. Diff fluid should have been changed by now, especially if its been in deep water or mud.

i dont have the site on the top of my brain but theres a site that i went to and checked my numbers, the ones on the drivers door jam and found out i have limited slips front and back. i kinda of thought as much seeing as when the front was locked and id drive around a corner it would feel like i was being pushed to the side. i have a old 55 ****** jeep and when i put a loc-right in the front it does that. from my experience if you lock both front hubs and turn either and the other turns in the same direction then you have some type of posi. otherwise the other should turn in the opposite direction.

TracLok is a Dana offering. Jeeps ran Dana's too. The name brand of the LS is symantics. What I'm trying to find out is if it is indeed a LS diff. I'll be replacing the fluid soon and I would need to put additive if it is. Plus, its a bonus, one more thing I don't have to take apart and replace.

Im willing to bet it isnt limited slip. If you have(had) open on the rear, its for sure NOT limited slip. Go ahead and do your fluid change. And if you discover it is limited slip, then just go get some friction modifier

Why was jeep the only ones to advertise that they had trac loc? They seemed as proud of it as pontiac was with their ABS haha
