short answer: you're wrong
don't take that the wrong way, but there's plenty of scientific evidence (not newspaper articles photos) of how and why a newer vehicle is much safer than an old "solid steel box".
that doesn't mean you'll drive away in the same truck after a crash, it just means you'll live to drive / walk away, period.

I was just kind of joking with that part, but honestly of the 4 or 5 accidents I've seen in the last couple of years involving a newer truck and an old brick bodied truck the newer one was totalled in all but one, the brick was easily fixable.

some people like status...especially in their vehicles. my wife bought a 02 cavalier in 2004 and has had it since! we have had talks about upgrading but shes likes "betty" and enjoys driving it...lol.

Just like in a race car wreck at 150 MPH... if the car flips and rolls and bangs for a half-mile, the driver walks away. If it hits a wall head on, worse things happen.
Old cars don't hold a candle to newer ones, regardless of weight.
However, if I'm driving my new truck and you're driving your new car, good luck if you run into me.

Some people drive a 20 year old truck because they have to ... I do it because I want to. My wife's just fine with that. Mind you, I do do a little rubbing and polishing on occasion. I enjoy it. And when she's all polished up and gleaming, it draws a lot of looks and comments. My wife looks really good behind the wheel, too. Put the two together and people just stop and stare. I think that's the part I like the best. Anybody can just go down to the dealership and sign their name... hell I could just go pay cash. But that's not what I want. Having what I want is more important to me than having what the neighbours think I should have. You want to watch how you present that.
