Diesel conversion?
 

As my 1994 F150 Flareside 5.0l v8 with 4R70W auto trans. approaches the need for an engine rebuild (205k miles), I have a couple questions:

Has any one converted from a 5.0l V8 to a diesel? If so what is involved beside the engine & what can be salvaged from the 5.0l? Long shot obviously!

What is a better direction for a very lightly local use truck;
A re-manufactured block or having the lower end redone with new fit bearings (low oil pressure when engine is at temperature)? I can handle the latter, but a new block would be farmed out.

I helped a buddy do a 460 to powerstroke swap in his f250 and I don't remember keeping anything in the engine bay except one of the batteries. I can't imagine it would be any easier starting with a 5.0. Easiest swap would be a 351. There is a guy in here who did a 460 MAF conversion on a flareside, but I can't remember who off of the top of my head.

a lot depends on just which diesel you want...we did a Cat 3208 back in the late 80's. A friend did an early power stroke in his 92, and other than the time and cost, it plays very well.

Were it me, I would go with a new Ford crate motor and be done. Weekend job DIY.

I've read cummins swaps aren't too difficult(in the grand scheme of putting an engine into a vehicle that wasn't designed for it). Some manufacturers even make mounting kits for them.

Have you tried just running diesel to see if it will work without any mods?

I decided for my limited use a new Ford crate engine is the best choice. I don't put 2,500 miles a year on the truck.
