Default Dead horse thread...what to look for

I'm sure this question has been brought up a million and one times, but I'm in the process of selling my Xterra, and finally getting a real truck that i can haul stuff with and wont cost me a ton of money to maintain. I had a Lincoln before with an H.O. 5.0, and my dad has had several cars with 302's in them. I was wondering if there were some common problems with the 80's-90's V-8 trucks (drive train, elecrical etc...) I'm in Michigan so accept the fact that it's not going to be easy finding one with out rust.

going down the road and the truck shuts off and won't refire..almost every ford v8 from the mid 80s-90s had that set up. They don't really give you a warning, they just go

another question...I was looking at CL at some 80s-90s F150s online, and one popped up about and mentioned something about "typical manifold issues". It didn't specify exhaust or intake, but does anyone know of these issues

They always say "typical" to make it sound like you should just expect it.
If it has a manifold issue, it has a manifold issue. It will have to be repaired so you will have to figure that into your "on the road" price.
I see lots of ads that say "typical ford rust". Just means their truck is rusty.
