Cross Country with the 300 I6

Hey all, long story short, I'm trying to gear up for a cross country trip and need advice. It's an 88 F-150, around 130k, single cab long bed, 4WD, and a 4.9 with the T-18 4spd (my main concern here). I need to get it from back home in Phoenix, AZ to Parris Island, SC, but I have a lot of concerns about a non-overdrive 4.9 running interstate RPMs for 2,100 miles. I took it about 200 miles a year ago at 75mph the whole way and as long as I didn't think about how much money I spent on gas it went without a problem. But 2,100 miles is *slightly* more than 200.

Google Maps has an "Avoid Highways and Interstates" option but it still struggled to find a route that was less than 80% highways with 75mph speed limits. No factory tach so I don't know how fast it was turning on that last trip, but if you could translate high RPM screams to English, I'm pretty sure she was cursing me out every time I went above 65. So what are y'alls thoughts? Think its safe for these things to hold those RPM's that long?
