Possibility of the new coil failing? My shop manual had specs for resistance on the primary and secondary side, but no longer have that manual - verify before shot-gunning parts at the problem.

 

Seeing as that I replaced the new coil with the old coil, which fixed the issue, and then ran for a week before suddenly dying, this is what I thought as well. So I bought a new Accel HEI coil and nothing changed. This truck has stumped more trained professionals than you can imagine.
