the chime is killing me!!!!!
OK so my truck is chiming does it for about 5 min before it will stop
i cant seem to locate it. it is a 1995, i was told it was under the dash, on the firewall near the center hump. i pulled out what i thought was it but it wasnt. anyone got a picture of the chime, or a pic of where it is located. 1995 f150 2x4 4.9l 5speed is what the cab is. |
Should be a black box with a small speaker grill looking hole in it. Probably near the steering column under the dash.

thats the one i unplugged before but the chime was still there, so i pulled the box ut of the truck, thinking their might have been another set of wires going into the top of it. but nothing. i sure wish i could hear better. when a highpitch sound goes off near me it just fills my head and i cant tell where it comes from. |
On my truck I was able to disable the chime noise by unplugging that box as well. Perhaps it is a previous owner's addition to the truck?
I have also heard of some cars using the door speaker as a chime. So you could try unplugging it at the door, and if that solves it, run a new wire to the head unit. Hope this helps! I for one can't stand door chimes. It seems cars must annoy people to get their attention. |
i'm thinking it might have something someone else installed on it like an old alarm system or something,
but must be stuck way up in the dash, and it is loud as all get up. its not in the speakers they all ready run strait to the headunit with new wires. i'll pull the dash all apart this weekend to see if i cant find it.. i'll let ya'll know monday what it was, if i find it lol. |
Mine was mounted to a bracket under dash above the gas pedal

it has the same connector as the OBD1 port.
make it ring and feel around for it, you'll feel it vibrate. on mine it was right there in my face. Its on a bracket a few inches from the firewall, right above the gas pedal. Theres a metal tounge that it slides up onto. you can just pull the dang thing straight down. the cords connect on the bottom of it, etc. etc. etc... I also unplugged my seatbelt sensor so it wouldnt ding when I start the engine. then i opened the box and taped over the actual sounder to muffle it when it sounds |
