As long as both engines that you swapped were small block V-8's
(e.g. 302, 351W) the flex-plate and starter will be the same.
The flex-plate would be different if one engine was a I6 because the I6 is internally balanced and the 5.0L and 5.8L are externally balanced engines.

i swapped trans not motor but i guess its the same thing because the c6 came from a 1986 windsor and it went into a 1993 windsor. so all small block v8s have same tooth count flexplates?

Being that all c6 uses same torque converter and have the same bolt pattern you can bolt up to any small block, inc the -6, usually all of the flexplates are the same size.

You wont, if you put it in and touch the key, the most it will do is work or not, if you look around you will find the starters are basically the same with all engines, all auto starters will work, as do many manuals, even some big block starters work on the small block and vice versa.

I know you do not have an I6, I just wanted to let the other readers know...
A Ford V8 engine (302/351) will badly vibrate the whole truck above 1500 RPM,
if a I6 flex-plate is installed.
(The 4.9L I6 300ci Straight 6 is an internally balanced engine)
The unbalanced I6 flex-plate will fit, it will crank and can be driven,
but the V8 will vibrate until removed and a balanced V8 flex-plate is installed.
(The Ford V8 small block 289 302 351W 351C are all externally balanced engines)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The C6 transmission behind a 351M/400M/429/460 engine
will not fit the small block Ford V8's or the I6 engine.
The Starter from a F-Series Manual transmission is different than a F-Series Automatic transmission Starter.
This information also applies to a manual transmission 1967-96 Ford truck;
which has a flywheel.
