Default Changing rear axle

I have a 89 short bed 2wd with a 5.0 and the axle code it 19.. I was wanting to change to something that was limited slip but didnt know what would be the best axle to drop in.. Im goin to be running 31' tires and hoping to have my engine and tranny redone so i need something that can take a beating.

Anyone know if an Econoline or Explorer axle will bolt up to an F150?

You can get a complete axle from a local junkyard for much less than those LSDs from Summit.

True. But, I have been beating on that for 40k miles on my Stang and it works flawlessly. a Ford Tracloc would have given up a long time ago. I paid to have my axle upgraded by someone who knows more than me and it was worth it. it doesn't look overly complicated but you need some toys to do it right.

i would buy a whole axle, saves you around 300 bucks if not more and around here junkyards have a 30 day warranty on that kind of stuff, so for the first 100 miles id be a little rough on it to drag out any problems in the rear end. if you got the cash and just dont really care, buy the gears and have a shop install them.

I agree. Depends on your needs for the vehicle. My Stang was built to be 500hp so I knew a stock ls would be pointless. For a daily driver truck stock ls should be sufficient.
