Default can't get my truck started!

i have a 1991 ford f150 4.9l. i have checked my fuel pressure (55psi). i have good spark to the dist from the coil and good spark to the plugs. i have replaced the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, throttle position sensor, cleaned the iac and still nothing. now i think its somewhere in the igintion system. oh and i have tested the igintion control module and it passing testing. however, it will not start. when i turn the key to where it should start cranking, it does nothing. so in order to start cranking i have to turn farther and it will crank and crank. when i let off from the farther positin, it sputters and tries to start. i have noticed that there is backfire through the throttle body in this position. so if anyone can follow my rambeling will you please HELP ME!!!!!!!!!! thanks

What did you do to it before it became like this? Is it possible that your ignition wires are now in wrong order? Also, try to read the codes.

i bought it like this for scrap price. so all the previous owner said was that it was hard to start, and when it would start it would try to choke out when going up a hill. so i fixed the fuel problem and i am where io am now. the guy also said that he put new plugs and wires before i got it. i checked them and they seemed to be fuel fouled. they were black and covered in gas. so i cleaned them up and made look like new. so what would make it try to start and not turn over all the way.

but did you check if the ignition wires are in the proper order on the distributor cap and the plugs?

I second cgossett - ensure the plug wires are installed correctly.
since there is a question - start by bringing #1 Cylinder to TDC / compression stroke - ensure rotor is pointing to the #1 termial on the distributor then that all remaining wires are in the correct positions.
Also ensure battery is fully charged

If that is OK I would say your best bet is the mag-pick-up in the distributor. (Hall effect device) of PIP.

They are a PITA to change as you have to remove the distributor and press the drive gear off. For many it is easier to just get a reman. distributor.

Sounds like the timing is off. Put the #1 on top dead center compression and make sure the rotor points at #1 plug wire contact. Mine did the same thing and the distributor was 180° out. As others have said, verify firing order. Replace the plugs with a set of cheap motorcraft or autolites.

12 pack of corona says it's the ignition switch on the column..I have found on my truck that it is usually dumb,dumb sh%&^ that causes me the most grief.
If the distibutor is off enough that it won't start then you have a serious issue like maybe you overheated enough to cause the timing chain to jump a tooth or two...

If it overheats enough the timing chain can stretch/jump jump and you have to reset the cam to the crank. I did that more than once on a 302 and on a 3.8 v6 cougar....and a 4.3 Chevy s10...lol. either way it's not a 1 hour job to rectify. Pull all th accessories, crank damper water pump timing cover ...index and set all the rockers...All in all a PITA.
My brother in law just did this to his dodge Magnum...lmao...800 repair at a shop.
