Default Can you help me, Truck died

I was driving normally when the engine developed a loud knocking noise coming from the engine. I turned for home and it just died on me.
The engine turns over, all the turny bits turn but no action
1. what the hell is the knocking noise
2. what can I do about it
3. the shop mamual I have does not indicat what it could be
Thanks for any advice
