Default Possible F-150 Purchase

I found a used F-150 at a nearby dealership for 2900 dollars. It is a 4.9L 4X4 5 Spd. The truck has a digital odometer that reads 75,000 original miles. I'm pretty new to fords as I purchased my first Ford, a 1986 mustang a few months ago, but not new to the automotive field. The truck is very solid and has no body rust, with just a little surface rust on the frame. It runs well and I really like the pick up, but I jsut have a few questions about it. I've hear that the 4.9L inline 6 is a pretty stout reliable engine that will provide years of good service, Is this true? Does the 300 hold up well to its reputation? Also, I didn't get the year of the truck, but It did have a digital odometer, what year did Ford first use those. And last but not least. The bed looks like it doesn't sit right, but I read another post on the forum reguarding this and the truck was on an uneve surface. I plan to take it for a drive tomorrow and make my final decision then. Any input you guys have would be much appreciated.

Digital odometers were used from 92-96 and as for reliability most people seem to get 300,000+ on their engines. The odometer on my 93 says 240,000 but it was supposedly rebuilt.

cool thanks for the info. Do you think the truck is worth the 2900? I was going to offer 2700, the body is a little beat and it needs tires and front shocks def. But I really do love the truck.

Depends on the year, there are some at dealers around me for like $4000 so that price doesn't seem bad but you always have to haggle.

i like my 300 it takes a beating that i give it. now yeah start at 2000$ for the price. the truck i got is a 93 f150 4.9l 5spd 4x4 and when i looked it at it was in really good condition. they wanted 3995$ for it and after all the loan stuff total came to 5400$ then the first winter the truck went thru was bad cause it was -0 a lot. and the front drivers fender cracked where they had put body putty.

if i was you i would go around the truck tap with your knuckles around the cab corners, both rear fender wheel wells, and the front fenders near the top of the wheel arch and bottom by the door is where the common rust is. now if you don't care about the rust don't worry like i say is i will drive the truck with just the frame and front seat. everything else will be gone on the truck besides the engine of course

well I wound up paying the 2900, but the truck is rock solid and totally awesome. I couldn't be happier with it for the money. Otherwise, I couldnt touch any 4x4 truck for under $4000
