Default to buy 15" or 16"?

Howdy!

So, I've just recently purchased a '94 f150 xl 4x4 and was also able to come across a 6" suspension lift for her. Now we just need some tires! Well, for this I'll need your opinions/expertise..

Lined up within the surrounding used market, I've got a choice between:

- classic II's (which I love) wrapped by 33x12.5 bfg a/t in good condition at a good price.. to which I'd be all over these if not for the fact that they're 16".

or

- 10 hole 15x8 alloys wrapped with 33x12.5 kuhmo road ventures (nice looking tires) in good condition at a cheaper price... only issue here is that they're located about 3 hours further away.

so...

I know the a/t's will get better wear, be better in the snow, and really their only downfall is that they're not quite as aesthetically pleasing.. but when all is said and done, and it's time to get new tires.. I'm left with a 16" rim. From what I've seen on the market (especially used), tires are harder to come by.. and I've yet to mention the topic of airing down for wheeling or side-wall (to which I sway toward the bigger sidewall of the 15")..

...'dunno boys.. whatcha think!?

I'd go 16", what comes with 15" anymore? Around here 16" used tires (or new) are cheaper and easier to find than 15". A friend owns a tire shop and he figures the day will come when the big domestic manufacturers will no longer make a 15" tire. Might be a few years away but really, what truck comes new with a 15" tire anymore?

+1, I could barely find any 15" tires for mine. There will definitely be a 16" upgrade in my future.

Good point, never thought of that! though it'd be nice to believe that good ole 300 would last forever.. optimism can only take you so far but yes, looking at the bigger picture, you are correct in that no new vehicles are being made with the 15" so ya.. it's just a matter of time. In addition, I s'pose the ole donkey could eventually use a new set of hind gears at which point I'd slap on a set of 35's, which then would look right at home on the 16's.

well there we have it.. decision made.. Thanks guys! greatly appreciated!

oh.. and JC316, I don't suppose you used to have a 5.0 mustang? seems to me that handle is awful familiar from another board I used to be on.

Not a 5.0L, but I did have a 96 Mustang GTS with a mark viii swap and a 98 GT. I frequented mustangforums.com, dfwstangs.net, modded mustangs, even corral.

Maybe, that is a good looking fox body. Here are my old ones. The first one is a 96 GTS and I swapped in a 4V Mark VIII engine into it. I kinda regret selling it, but it was getting pretty old. The second is a 98 GT. PI swap, 3.73's, LT headers, Lowering springs, etc. I was damn glad to get rid of it, I switched to my 95 F-150 from it.

My trucks on 33x12.5 15R and the ride is smooth,, like gliding. 16 inch rim would probably be the same and look almost identical. whatever you do, NO 16.5

Yeah, I agree with chelios, no 16.5 rims for sure!

I have 35 x 12.50 BFG AT (KO's) on 10 x 15 M/T Classic II aluminum rims.

The 16" BFG AT you spoke of, ensure they are not the old style BFG AT tire,
see if KO is on the sidewall, the BFG AT KO is the newer version tire,
the difference? I don't know.
