454s are decent but honestly I feel that Chevy engines are cheap and do not hold up well after years of abuse, considering every 350 sbc i have come across has a valve tick after 110k miles my guess would be the 454 is the same.

if you build them right they can be amazing but considering its a efi truck thats now carbed its just took 90 steps back... even if it makes more power it still has a glroified toliet bowl on top instead of high pressure jets pushing all the fuel the engine can burn up...

7-9mpgs for a daily driver these days is just total crap unless you have stock in BP lol

its just sad to see that "car Guys" cheap out on these projects, I almost had a chance to pick up a 429 with a 5 speed transmission for 400 bucks. if i did you can damn well bet I would be getting a 2wd f150 and dropping it on in there! haha

I've never known anyone to keep a 454 for 100k miles. Lol. They all wound up trading up to the Ford Diesels by about the 40k mile mark. These Louisiana folks have something against that big sticker under the 454 hoods that say "Made in Tanawanda, NY". Probably why that GM plant out of business.

ive only come across one vehicle stock with a 454 it was a 1998 Suburban. apart from the typical pitman arm and other front end crap they always have issues with the transmission was also shot lol so i think for me Chevy needs to either totaly resigned there approach to making cars and trucks or just stop all together. Im just laughing at them now with all of there recalls its just nutz. id want my money back after the 3rd one! Chevy stopped making good quality cars in the 80s and trucks...well they never made a decent truck LOL

from all of the Chevy's i have seen and worked on I will not own another of them. (should say after the 80s) 1970 chevelle ss i wouldn't mind having lol but as far as new ones no thanks.

there like any other car they all have flaws and such but i feel that Chevy Being a massive car corporation is slacking on there build quality... I expect better from them. I mean i expect to pull of trim pieces in my Jap crap Subaru and have but not on an American built car....

i know we all love Fords here but seriously a true car guy should be able to appreciate something like that even with a chevy engine. i havent really heard anything bad about 454s other than the horrible gas mileage

I did see pictures of a 302 down in a S10 the other day,my 37 chevy p/u will most likely have Ford power in the future but right now its powered by a old 235 which I kind of like but it has issues which will have to be pulled to fix. I am thinking a 302 and AOD would be a nice change for the old Chevy.

I was going to put the vans 350 and 700R4 into the F150, but I like the van too much.
