dude ones got a big back tank Carb the other one has a long thin rail FI... ones gravity fed/ air presure fed the other one is pressurized and sprays fuel into the cylender/intake system.
ones a toilet the other is a sink... I am not a plumber but i can see the difference between the two. open the back of the toilet up and look in its pretty close to the needle system on the carb Your the ECU when Using the sink...

To explain this to a dumb *** Customer every other day I use those analogy because everyone used a toilet and sink man... I could sit there and explain it like you just did but after the 3rd person asking Id punch them in the face... I am not good with people..

If someone actually wanted to learn about them I would take the time for them but 99% of the time there just idot customers making small talk.

I'm not bad with people but someone would be dead after explaining it twice in a day lol. It seems like 99% are the idiots your talking about, and of the remaining 1% 99% don't care for the in depth explanation, and if they do they most likely already know.

99% who ask i guess, some dont care most of my customers dont that's why i fix there stuff and maintain there cars LOL

Dr.Bowtie would be the guy to ask as far as performance on this site. if he cant make it faster then you bought the wrong car haha.

I know how the systems work because I prefer to diagnose the issues before dumping parts in Like a few past co workers ive delt with. just because the symptoms are close or simmaler to a job you once did does not make it instantly that issue on that car.

There was one coustomer who asked for me by name when ever he needed help with his Supercharged mustang. I gladly helped him and he was very thankful for it too. those are the coustomers i would gladly spend all day teaching them how it works. the guy who tosses me the keys to his store bought 1969 Camaro and asks me to change the oil and use the cheap filter ...well you can guess where thats going haha

The easiest way to end an argument with a customer is just ask them a simple question.... "Are you standing in my shop?" If you know more about your car and how to fix it than i do why did you bring it here?

I dont have time is the common answer i get.... I send them packing when this happens.. tell em take it to Hoolio's around the corner they love hillbilly crap.

The part of my job I hate is when a vehicle comes in for something it doesnt need and I let the boss know and he says do it anyways.... I wont lie and if the customer ask me I tell them the truth... this is why i work for myself 99% of the time.

Now to get back to the Main topic.....

look at the picture and what does it tell you?

1) owner wanted more power....

what was the best way to get it? bigger engine and he probably used what he/she had access to.

2) most power cheaply.

stock flashed ECU will only handle so much power. although a HUGE engine can make huge power if the MAP sensor is kept within 20-22 inches of manifold vacuum...

not knowing or wanting to deal with costly injectors or EFI stuff the cheapest route was a Carb.....

you could theoretically take a 460 and punch it to 560 cubes and run the stock EFI on it with matched injectors and the stock flash.... whether that would work in all areas is another story.

Well Ill be doing that haha!
as for the replacing a part that is not needed to save people money my bosses hate me for that. I got a K&N reusable filter that way when I told the guy what was in the truck he just bought and said to me keep it he was putting a warm air intake on in a week Honesty is the best way for repeat business. I always tell everyone to bring there car to a trusted mechanic. oddly enough I have a few people who wanted me to work on there car after i left pepboys I must be doing something right.

No replacement for displacement but dont tell the tuner kids that LOL its a barbaric way to get more power considering what you just said with the 460...and will be telling my buddy that before he goes and buys a 351 or a diesel to drop in his f250
