They make different latches for the 90's model fords. All you have to do is find a new latch that will bolt to your assembly correctly. Step one unbolt original latch from release assembly. Step two bolt on the new latch to assembly. The new latch sits upward instead of downward thus being finger tip accessable when you open your hood. It will be between hood and grille instead of behind the grille. There is a video on YouTube if you look up billet grill solution or something along those lines.
