Question Best mouting point for a cold air box?

I am sick of the old air box in my truck Ive always wanted a cold air intake but not sure where to mount the box to get the best air flow I have a 4.9l L6 so space is not a big deal i guess i could just put it where the box is but im worried water or mud might get up in the box and ruin my engine. any ideas? thanks

You normally mount them in the same place as the one now. I think they come with a box to protect them from the elements. I do not know for sure as those are way to expensive for me lol.

There is a thread where someone did just that man. I know someone on here did that. I am trying to find the thread for you but can't. In essence he took the 95 y-pipe added some hose to it, cut his breather box, used a specter filter and bolted it together. Looked cool and was easy to do man.
