I'm getting ready to install some new gaskets for valve cover, oil pan and intake. So far I've removed old paper gaskets with a plastic scraper and tried using a baby bottle scrubbing brush for the tougher dirt but just isn't cutting it. Anyone have suggestions ?

I prefer a wood chisel. No I don't use a hammer with it. About the only time you have to use caution is on an aluminum surface

I just use a flat metal paint scraper and sometimes a razor blade layed flat to the surface.
