Default Best Coil?

I'm gonna be doing the sixliter tune in about two weeks, and don't know what coil to use. I've heard about the MSD coils failing after so many miles, so what do you guys use. Also if you have any other tips when doing the tune, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

I used the MSD. IIRC it has a lifetime warranty. Mine failed once after A LOT of miles (to me anyway) and just went back to Autozone and swapped it.

The one in here. I don't remember if it ended up being the same one or if the part changed but it was still the hi-performance one

When I was overhauling my 91 5.8 to give to my daughter I did a bit of research on available TFI IV Coils and what was avaialble:

I ended up going with an ACCEL P/N: 140012 that I paid $48.90
for delivered to the house back in 2010. Today I would choose the same.

Latest COIL spec and pricing info from Jegs:

ACCEL P/N: 140012 Specs [$53.99]
· Maximum Voltage: 48,000 volts
· Primary Resistance: 0.2 Ohms
· Secondary Resistance: 8.8 k Ohms
· Turns Ratio: 132:1

MSD P/N: 8227 Specs [$51.99]
· Maximum Voltage: 44,000 volts
· Primary Resistance: 0.68 Ohms
· Secondary Resistance: 4.8 k Ohms
· Turns Ratio: 100:1

Pertronix P/N: D3003 Specs [$47.04]
· Maximum Voltage: 50,000 volts
· Primary Resistance: 0.32 Ohms
· Secondary Resistance: ??
· Turns Ratio: ??

^Great post. Now what about the MSD 5527 Street Fire TFI Coil. Its only $33, and I've heard of the accel having problems with the coil to distributor connection. I just don't want to spend $20 extra bucks if it ain't gonna work as well. Also, I was going to use Taylor cables, but I've heard that the above problem can be solved by getting the accel cables.

I think I'm going for the accel.

I haven't seen published specs for the MSD 5527. If they were something to consider I'm sure MSD would have published them?? I think it is just there stock replacement coil. FWIW - I have not had any issues with connections on my 91..

Great. I'll order mine tonight. BTW, what wires did you use?

Accel makes a kit with cap, rotor, wires, and plugs for like $130 then all you need to buy is the coil. This is what i plan on doing as soon as im laid off and have the time.
