1990 302 fuel filter location
The owner's manual that came with this truck is woefully inadequate, nothing at all mentioned about the fuel filter. I know very little about Fords and I just purchased this one. I am looking for the location of the fuel filter on a 302 1990 F150, I think I know where it is but I want to be sure. Thanks!

If you plan on doing a lot of your own maintenance work, cannot recommend enough to get a shop manual - Chiltons, Haynes, Motor, Ford, or the like.
Fuel filter should be in the driver side frame rail, about underneath where you put your feet on the floorboard.

Eh, suppose you could bleed off the pressure from the Schrader valve test port on the fuel rail. Usually, if the truck has sat for a while, it's not too bad. I wrap rags in appropriate places to catch any spray - usually just one short 'pffft', not much volume.
Or pay someone else to have the fuel splashed in their face? :-)~

Thanks, yes I figured it will be just the little bit of fuel in the line. I also figured out that I will need the special tool to get it off, on my list for tomorrow.

the special tool is a pressure line removing tool that you close over the line (kind of like pliers) but then it has a lip that releases the spring around the line. Push on the tool, pull on the line and it usually comes apart. Advance sells a cheapy one that does the trick. Your 88 might have the old white clips that you pull out and the filter has like a barb on the end. If so, you're lucky as I hate the lines that need the tool.

As it turns out I didn't need the tool, I've got the kind with the little white clips. I was able to get them off by squeezing with fingers and pulling, easy as could be. Anybody need a $5.67 special tool?
