bars stop leak?

has anyone ever used it in anything? ive got a lil (and it really is lil) leak in my rad somewhere and am looking for a temporary fix. so does it really work is my question.

Dont use it. You'll end up finding it in areas you don't want, and cause more harm than good.

skuzzlebutt13 02-29-2012 12:51 PM

ok. then is there any sort of brand that is recommended? that wont gunk anything up

As a temp fix, I have used crushed black pepper, and it will flush out when you fix the leak. I use about 4 oz. of pepper.

ive never heard of using crushed black pepper. i wonder if that tip started from martha stewart haha

GhostriderI 02-29-2012 01:09 PM

Nope, I got it from my father, I saw him use it in our F-100 back in the '60's. He ran it for about 3 months till he had time to flush and troubleshoot the leak. Ended up being a pin hole in the radiator that only opened when at operating temp.

you can also crack open and egg too i've heard that works.
i personally would rent a radiator pressure tester and test the system,Heck you could even do it right in the parking lot of the auto parts store. then you know exactly where it is.

dont use the stop leak whatever you do. used it in 3 different trucks, within 3 months they all needed new water pumps :censored:

skuzzlebutt13 02-29-2012 02:23 PM

so i should stay away from any sort of stop leak then

GhostriderI 02-29-2012 02:28 PM

If you do not have time or weather will not let you find and fix the leak I would use the pepper until there is time. If you can fix it now, then fix it. IMHO :D
