Default trans and rear upgrades

5.0 v8 auto 4r70w trans just turned 187k on the clock and trans is slipping when under mid to heavy acceleration thru first and when i stop sudden it downshifts late. its rwd with 2.47 in the rear. going to switch in a 4r70w trans and rebuild the one in it. want to upgrade the rear but dont know any info on it like the spline count, ring size etc. the rear it has will leave a nice single strip through the parkin lot but i want a little more smoke and a lot more rubber. not worried bout mpg. sits on 235/75/15s

any info on upgrades would be helpful. thanks

The rear end should be a 31 spline 8.8" diff. Not sure what gear ratio you want but yours seems really high to me. If it was my truck I'd go down quite a bit, like 3.55, depending on tire size.

2.47 high? looking to go bigger than 3.08. gonna eventually squeeze all the hp/tq out of this 302 and maybe upgrade to a 351 or bigger. gonna keep the tires the same and do a body lift later this year. just want something that will stand up to the upgrades and/or swaps.

Numerically lower but a higher gear ratio

I've always been a fan of deeper gears. Still trying to decide what to do with my truck.

Agreed! I had 3.08 gears and just recently swapped to 4.10 gears with a Ford Racing Trac-Lok differential. WOW! What a difference! She ****'s and Get's now!
