Axle Swap on a 1995 f150
I have some questions regarding an axle swap on a 1995 F150 4x4 Ive been looking for a gasser SuperCab F250 shortbed thats 4wd And haven’t had any luck. I was wondering if anyone on here has swapped the axles and suspension from an F250 onto an F150 and what modifications they had to do to the body/frame to make it work. Im going to be hauling a gooseneck trailer that isn’t very heavy but still would like the stability of a 3/4 ton suspension. Or would there be a simpler option to add to the current trucks setup that could have the same effect? Thanks for any advice! |
Everything on the 150s and 250s should be similar and interchangeable, unless the 250 is a 4x4, then it will have leaf springs in the front, rather than coil springs. But you should be able transfer any other parts of the suspension into your 150 without any modification to the frame or body.
And if you do use an f150 for f250 work, then you should make sure you have a transmission that can handle it, which as far as I know is any stock transmission, other than the m5od. |
Putting heavier axles under an F150 will give it LESS towing/hauling capacity. If you need a heavier truck than you have or can buy, rent one.

If it's just about stiffening it up, 250 springs will work on a 150.
Front coils will work on a 150 whether it's 4x4 or 2wd. Rear leafs on a 150 4x4 are 3" wide, same as a 250 or 350. F150 2WD rear springs are only 2 1/2" wide so putting 3/4 ton springs there would involve changing the spring hangers on the frame and the plates that the u bolts lock onto. I found that f250 coils (moog cc844) combined with front and rear anti-sway bars and heavy shocks gives a lot of stability. |
