Autometer gauge cluster a bust
 
Well guys, I went ahead and buttoned it up.

As you guys know, I was having some issues with the aftermarket check engine light and charge light staying on. Some of you guys helped me out with some ideas however after exhausting those ideas and running out of my own it was time.

I dead headed the two wires for the engine and charge light and called it a job done. Not very happy with the outcome because of having to do that but aesthetically speaking it couldn't look better.

As you'll see in the pics I have to finish pulling the old speedo cable the rest of the way out and disconnect it from the trans and get a block off plate put in place and the two small brown and black wires are used to program the gas gauge. Just have to drain the fuel out, short the two wires together, top the tank off and again short the wires together then I'll be able to tuck them away.

Again, can't tell you how much of a bummer it is and be this frustrated because of those two lights I'm not even excited about it anymore. It is what it is I guess.

They look great! Sounds like it was a pain in the ass though. Was it worth it at all? It's definitely a whole new look to get used to from the stock setup

Oh yes it was worth it in my opinion because this truck will always be around. If I'm not driving it my son will be.

Its an investment that's for sure. Just by looking at it, it doesn't look like much but I'm in over a grand just with the purchase of the gauges let alone all the odds and ends and labor.

I couldn't see doing this just for the wow factor. To much time and money. But the functionality of them plus the fact that the truck will be around pretty much forever and my factory gauges were intermittently going dead, it was justified.
More money than I think there worth, but it is what it is.

All in all it wasn't that bad of a job. Just those stupid lights got me. Other than that it would have been simple just time consuming.

A thousand dollars?! Holy good lord man that is a lot i can see why those couple pf mishaps got you down!! And yeah i completely understand i plan on keeping my 88 for life. So you think the functionality of them is superior then stock? Like obviously yeah you get way more accurate readings and probably an odometer that doesnt roll over, but it's worth doing it for daily driving? I've thought about doing a similar set up to yours im just caught between wether i want the more modern look or the classic gauges. But yes you did a great job!

Thanks. Yes I like to know exactly what's going on under the hood. Not necessarily with the factory motor but after I put the big block in. I'll have a lot of money into that motor so I'd like to keep my eyes on what its doing.

Even though I like how the truck feels its age because it has more personality than any new truck in my opinion i still wanted to modernize it just a tad without losing that feeling. I think the new gauges did that without taking it over the edge and the dependability is a huge bonus. I've always had an appreciation for the Pro-touring cars and tried to apply that with it.

Everything I've done to it so far has been with that in mind. Sometimes less is more with these old trucks.

I have a challenger SRT8 and barely had any compliments on it but almost every time I take the truck out I always get them. Go figure. You'd think it was worth something.

Heres the prices not including the aftermarket warning lights.

I ended up not using the dimmer and the Painless harness.

The guages look nice and are cool but that steering wheel really stands out and looks awesome! What are the details on it and where to find one?

Thank you. I appreciate the comments.

I purchased the steering wheel directly from LMC truck the moment I bought the truck.
One of the easier things I've installed on the truck yet.
The quality is awesome and it gets a lot of comments. A lot of people love it and I've met a few people who absolutely hate it.

In my opinion, anything is better than the god awful factory wheel.

Eventually I will be doing what Inside Man did for gauges. Stock gauges are junk, the blue is a nice color too. I bought the Autometer LED dimmer as well, some of the gauges are stupid bright at night. Good Job.
