Auto to 5 speed know how

Hey guys. I want to convert my 95 f150 2wd from auto to a T5. Anything I need to know as far as ECU or wire harness changes I will have to make? Will I have to change the cross member? If I find a fox body can I just take the whole system out of bolt and play or will I have to make changes?

Why t5 versus the f150's m5od? Just curious. I swapped from an e4od to the m5od, kept the existing computer and wiring and jumped the neutral safety switch wires. Needed a new starter to match the engine/tranny and put a different cross member in but I think that's because it was a 4x4 tranny.

From what I've seen they are the better transmission out of the two but I haven't had any experience with either. But if I can keep the same wiring and ecu with the other swap then that's what I will look for! Also have some rear end questions as well. I want to convert the rear to disc brakes instead of drums. Any suggestions? It's going to be an everyday driving truck no hauling but I am beefing up the motor.

I think you'll find a mustang motor will have the wrong oilpan and intake and camshaft ... for starters. Crossmember will probably need to be changed. Driveshaft. You need clutch pedal/ brake pedal setup. Change the column. Do something about the indicator in the cluster. And I'm sure there's a couple of other things. a donor truck would be real handy.
As far as the drum brakes versus disc, keep in mind that you could buy a big block truck with the same drum brakes. Point would be that brakes are about stopping and a beefed up motor makes no difference when you put your foot on the brake, so I wouldn't factor engine power into the brake decision.

So if I were to get a 5speed out of a 2wd f150 i should be ok? Right?

....and the driveshaft, clutch/brake pedal assy, slave/master assy, flywheel...
might be able to get by just taking the steering column cover. would be a good idea to get a instrument cluster that has a tach...
best is to get the whole truck, then scrap the rest once swap is done. then you will have some extra stuff as well like wheels, etc

I thought it was going to be an easier swap then that. May consider just leaving it automatic rather than going broke to make it work.

Perhaps you can find a truck that is already a manual. There are 2 on Craigslist where I live.

There's going to be a lot of work and money involved by the time you're done.
Unless you really really want your truck to be manual shift then leave it alone.

Don't need a new steering column, just remove the roll pin and remove the shifter. Up to you if you want to replace the cover or not. As far as the cluster I just painted over the lettering so light doesn't shine through. Pretty simple stuff doesn't require any modifications but definitely easiest/cheapest to have a donor truck with the same wheelbase/engine.
