Yeah that was my thought. Experienced that with my conversion. Re machined the custom bell housing and got a new tool to align it. Finally solved it for me. Good luck. It's so cool to say you did a manual conversion.
Remember to take the truck straight to a tranny shop and make sure the drive shaft is properly aligned. It's very very important trust me!!!

I think you're right. Did have to make the bolt holes on the bell housing just a bit bigger the for mounting bolts to go through.
But it is looking like there is more differences than just the size of the bolt holes.
It's been fun.

We have clutch, just not quite enough. Do they make a master cylinder to fit this truck (or can be adapted) to make up a little more travel.
The pedal gets right on the floor and holds. You can start it in gear and drive it and shift it, but it still acts like it needs a little more.
How do they bleed these in the factory, they can't take a week to do this job.
Thanks
Roy

I put my clutch plate backwards when I done my conversion spent 6 months trying to figure it out. I just skip that part when I brag about my conversion. The fat side of the clutch plate snags on the fly wheel bolts and won't go in. Feels like you got all the pressure in the world but no clutch.

Good news today. The clutch now works.
The wrecking yard sold us a transmission for a 97 F150 with a 4.2.
We were putting it in a 93 F150 with a 302.
Long story short... If you drill the bolt holes for the bell housing out to accomodate the trans to engine bolts, and use the 1997 clutch instead of the 1993 clutch it works.
The later model pressure plate has raised ends on the diaphram while the 1993 pressure plate does not.
Would have saved us a week of work had we known whast clutch to use with this transmission. From all our measurements it looks like the later transmission is about 3/8 inch deeper than the 1993. Hince the need for the raised fingers in the diaphram.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I have converted my aod to a 5 speed and lost out on top speed I have a 89 f-150 with a 302 used to be able to be able to go 100km/h and if I stomped the gas I would be up over 150 in a second or two now the truck doesn't seem to want to go much faster than 120 in fourth or fifth not sure if a set something up wrong but everything else works fine I can pop the clutch in 2nd to start and make one hell of a burn out so it seems like something in the high gears is not quite right it does feel low geared and good on gas just doesn't fly down the road like it used to any ideas any one
