My truck doesn't really look like there's anything valuable inside though.

To each his own, I was only offering a suggestion. If you want to drop a few thousand $$ in a sound system for your truck, be my guest

I've had my cars broken into and it sucks. What they steal is bull****, the biggest hassle is repairing the damage... Busted glass, broken locks, etc.

Anyway, my OEM radio sounds really good. I'm sure I could install a big amp, subwoofers, component speaker and a fancy HU, but it's not worth it to me. I don't listen to that loud hip hop and rap stuff. For my taste, the setup I have is just fine. The extra security is just an added bonus

You don't need to drop a few thousand to have a good sounding system. I don't have much money in mine. There are a few stock radios that sound good too. My door speakers are still stock and they sound great with 50 watts each to them.

yes, yes I have.... when I bought my truck the stock radio didnt work...not sure why but it didnt and I found that odd for a low mileage truck...

A friend hooked me up with a brand new Clarion unit so i got the wiring harness at Wal-Mart and in 15 minutes i had the old one out and the new one installed and playing... I changed nothing else...the stock speakers will be replaced at some point and maybe add an amp and a box behind the seat...

but with my electric fans on the rad I need a bigger alternator before I do that....

Putting a new stereo in is easy as pie, buy the dash kit and wiring harness
putting the dash kit in is just a few screws.

For the new radio match the colors up from the instructions, solder everything up and you're good to go.

If you're really worried about someone stealing your headunit i've had a few friends do surgery on their old OEM radios and put the oem face over the new HU with some velcro/clips.
similar to this http://www.instructables.com/id/Car-...adio-fake-out/
Think i've also seen something like that floating around on this forum.
