Default Advice on buying 1995 XLT

Hey there, I have the opportunity to buy a 1995 f150 and am looking for price advice and maybe some tips on what to look for before purchasing.

It is a 1995 F150 Regular cab short bed with 86,0000 miles. Asking $4,000
  • XLT
  • Color matched bed lid
  • 5.0
  • auto
  • double gas tank
  • lumbar seats
  • power side mirrors
  • cruise control
  • air conditioner
I wanted a inline 6 more but this seems like a really good deal and it seems the smaller v8 doesnt get that much worse gas mileage.
Some cons about the vehicle:
  • oxidation on the trunk lid two spots, also the hood is about to start oxidizing on the driver side a bit. I was thinking i could get it repainted however. is it hard to find stock Ford paint in these older colors?
  • The headliner has some rips in it, i tried looking for new headliner on ebay but i didnt see any options.
  • the shifter on the auto transmission has tape around it seems like the plastic cracked near the overdrive button.
Im thinking of offering 3500 for the truck I really like the Sea Foam green color and besides those small things the engine looks really clean and it runs strong.

Advice?

Paint is pretty easy to match even on the older trucks. With the paint code off the truck they can make the exact color.

4g seems about right if all else with it is good but it never hurts to try to get it for cheaper.

Check the frame to make sure its solid, especially in the rear that's where I see most rot out at.

Just use your best judgement and if something don't seem right ask questions. But if all is good I don't see any reason not to commit to the buy.

4000 for a 18 year old truck... Walk away. Start with $2000, either the person will sell it or walk away. Nobody I know of has ever bragged about over paying for an old vehicle. I am not trying to urinate on your parade, just need to make sure you know where reality is and fantasy stops.

How bad is the rust underneath the truck? Does it look like you will need to replace brake lines, parking brake cables, any fluid leaks from engine, transmission, or gas tanks? Are the ball joints shot? Any of these problems will justify your offer. No need to be rude about the offer, but don't blow money you may need later for repairs.

Be sure to check rear leaf hangars and shackles.... Didn't check mine before I bought it, and I just finished them, what a b**** that was...
