Default '96 Steering question

howdy folks!

I have a '96 150xlt that I got used. I love the truck but there are a few issues I have with it. Chiefly among them is the steering. It sucks. The turn radius on this truck is so big I'm often forced into a 15 point turn where a three point turn should suffice.

So here's the deal: Can I fix this? Is it possible to decrease the turning radius? I work on boats and marine diesel engines for a living, so I know my way around tools, but to be honest, I know VERY little about cars and trucks. Is this something that can be done (IF, in fact it can to begin with) on the street in front of my house or this this a shop job?

I appreciate any and all info you all might be able to share,

THANKS!

to the site cleetus. I don't know but I would think that it would require a different steering column or rack. Does this truck have power steering?
Off topic, Do you own a boat? If so what do you have? I got a 2001 Wellcraft Martinique 2400

Yeah I do have the power steering on this one. She was all tricked out from the factory I guess, plus the original owner had some extra stuff added on. She does have the "offroad package" which may or may not effect the steering.

I have a few boats, a couple skiffs for crabbing (I live just up 95 in Baltimore) a 1954 wooden lapstrake runabout and some kayaks I'm in the process of building. I don't get to use any of them enough tho as I spend all my time actually working on a 44' boat with twin Cummins.
