Default 96 5.8 true dual exhaust?

Im putting headers on my 96 5.8 and I would like to get rid of the cat and run true dual exhaust. But I know the engine does not run well or get very good MPG when one of the O2 sensors go bad or when it is disconnected. Has anyone had any experience with O2 sensor eliminators? If they dont work then I guess I will have to purchase two new high flow cats($$$$$). But is the O2 sensor going to work correctly if its only installed after one cat???? Ive got 3 sensors, one at each manifold and one behind the cat. Its my first thread and any help would be very appreciated.

I don't have experience with the oxygen sensor eliminator but I do know how the 3 sensor system works. The first two sensors read each bank and since the oxygen levels after the cat are different than the first two sensors then it has a different reading. If you eliminate the cat then the third sensor reads the same as the first two, which gives you a check engine light. Putting one sensor in one bank behind the cat should work fine since the levels will be different than the other two. I believe the sensor eliminator gives the computer the correct signal as if the sensor was still there and the engine was running fine, so I would go ahead and try it.

I appreciate your input Sean and I think I will take your advice and buy an eliminator if I can find the right one for my truck. Ive seen alot of them sold for small cars, motorcycles etc but not for an F150. Im still trying to find some info out on them because I did see some that were universal but ofcourse they dont give any info, just a pic and a price.

My 1995 f150 with the 5.8L has only one o2 sensor. What i would recommend is put the true dual exhaust, but you can buy o2 sensor bungs that you can weld into place so you still use the o2 sensors. Then you don't have to go through the whole ordeal of get and o2 sensor eliminator.

He needs the o2 sensor eliminator to keep the check engine light from coming on if he removes the cats. Your '95 is OBDI and the '96 is OBDII.

If the check engine light comes on for any sensor that the PCM thinks is a major component for it to function right it will go into an open-loop system. When it runs open-loop the PCM runs on factory preset settings and not on real readings from sensors and makes my engine idle rough, it has a tendency to race when the foot is not on the pedal, the exhaust stinks like sulfur, and my gas mileage really sucks BAD. I havent had any luck on finding a so called Eiminator but I did find a O2 simulator. Its got a heater and all on it and is adjustable for the heater and the mv signal. I found it on Amazon. Im going to order it tomorrow and try it out when I get it before I do the header and exhaust project. I need to wait a while anyway before I order parts since Christmas is comin up.
