Default 96 4wd mystery

Hey my 96 f150's 4wd is on the fritz. It has the floor shifter with auto hubs. When I shift into 4wd hi or lo everything seems to engage. 4wd light comes on and front driveshaft turns but no actual 4wd. Any thoughts? I have been thinking maybe the hubs went bad but tonight looking through the chilton manual I'm wondering if it could be the control module? Does it have a control module being a floor shift 4wd? If so how can I test the module? Before throwing new hubs at it.

Take the hubs apart and service them, as in clean and grease them, they might not be engaging.

yeah i purchased an 89 bronco and i had plans to put in some warn manual hubs after i got the gaskets replaced, but that turned into more problems so i sold it. needless to say i never got that far, payed 500 for it put in 300 in parts and then sold it for 600 about 6 months later.

Check the actuator. I think that how you spell it.
If it's not engaging then everything will work but your front diff. won't turn your front tires. If that don't work then I'm stumped.

Actuator? What are you talking about? The part inside the hub that actually locks? He has a manual transfer-case. The hubs are probably busted since the transfer-case engages. There is no module, except maybe what turns the light on. The 4x4 system is all mechanical.

****, I saw "auto" in his tread and all I could think of is buttons.
Lol
Scratch what I said, checks your hubs.

He said he has the auto hubs, so something has to send a signal to tell them to lock, which it seems is not doing so or they are not responding.
