Default 95 rear gas tank help!

i have a 1995 f-150 with dual tanks, the front tank works fine but whenever i switch to the rear tank the truck sputters and dies. i can hear the rear pump prime. It does work on the back tank only when i up shift the truck (as its a manual) but as soon as i run out of gears it dies again. I drained the tank and put new gas in and same problem. Any Ideas?

Do a pressure check on the rear pump. Sounds like it is getting weak but you won't really know till you do the pressure test.

Also welcome to the forum

I have the chance to buy a good used rear tank that is rust free and a good pump for $40. Would it be a good idea just to replace my tank and pump. My tank is getting pretty rusted where the straps are.

If you don't buy it, I will.

$40 is a steal for either of those, let alone both. Just be sure that the pump actually works like it's supposed to, but for that kind of money, I'd buy the tank just to have an extra. lol.

My only suggestion here is to stay clear of the used pump. Spend the $40.00 but install a new pump. You dont want to have to drop the tank again shortly after you installed it. As NightHawk said, do the pressure test first.

You need a fuel pressure testing gauge. You should be withing 35-45psi with key on engine off, and key on enigne running 30-40psi

If yours is a 5.0L the Fuel pressure relief valve should look like this
