Default ++++++++++

I had this happen to me once. I pulled the fuse that operates the odometer to use it somewhere else and the tranny did exactly the same thing. Guess the factory did this so you couldn't disconnect the odometer.

That's a remote starter, or an alarm. Either way, it ain't stock.

EDIT: oops. I'm tired and didn't notice this was already on page 3. My bad.

You would check the wires for continuity with a voltmeter. I didn't bother describing how to do it because I have a hard enough time fumbling through it myself when I need to do it. The voltmeter will come with instructions, just look under "checking continuity". Oh yeah, check that fuse too.

Default Forget the VSS and TPS bull!!!

Ford designed a unit behind the speedo called the PSOM, it has a common fault where the surface mount capacitor c2 burns out this cappacitor can"t be replaced with out proper equip. You have to replace the whole unit, good luck finding one in a junk yard, took me 5 months, and buying one from the dealership is expensive, but they have them, some states require the dealer only swap out because it blanks the odometer. Your speedo jumping is the clincher, I've had the exact same symptoms 3 times on three different truck (2 5.8 and a 5.0) and it is always the PSOM, ford will even tell you its the PSOM,

guess my awesome email sent this notification to the spam folder 6 months ago...

since April, I've done the TPS, VSS, Filter & Fluid, and NSS (or shift lever sensor)

with the old VSS everything works, new VSS the speedo jumps around. Ever since colder weather set in it's been acting just fine for me....... so I got a digital temp sensor ordered to install on the driver side of the transmission in front of the shift rod. This way I can see if maybe my cooler isn't working right and its telling the transmission that its HOT when it shouldn't be, therefore replace the cooler and I'll be golden... we'll have to see. I'm on the site a lot more these past few days and hope to become more of a regular now that I think I'm keeping this truck LOL

Thanks Again everyone!
