Default 95 F150 4x4 supercab w/ 62k, exc cond for $6900 or 99 Ram 2500 4x4 w/ 83k for $7k?

The F150 is a 5.8L, auto trans, long bed, has a towing package, bed liner, tool box, power this and that, etc. A bit fancy for my tastes but....very low miles at 62k and in superb condition! Does $6900 sound like a decent deal?

Second part of the question: I understand this is forum dedicated to F150 fans, however, I thought I'd throw it out there, since I'm here:-). I'm getting a new to me truck to replace my small truck. It's not going to be a daily driver. Just something of a personal work truck to haul lumber (in the bed & on trailer), firewood, sand, rocks, and similar materials....some times in the mountains and deserts (ie, unmaintained rough dirt roads that can occasionally be snowy &/or muddy).

Besides the aforementioned F150, my other option is a 1999 Dodge 2500 4x4, 5.9L, auto trans, standard cab long bed with 83k miles. It's a plain Jane all business ex-government work truck in great shape! To me, with its ground clearance and shorter wheelbase, it looks like it would be a better offroad truck...and it's a 3/4 ton vs 1/2 ton. But, 20k more miles and no extra cab space.....

I'm the type to keep a vehicle for a long time...so want something that will last a long time. I will put, at most, 4k per year on this truck.

Would love to get some unbiased opinions between these two trucks for my needs.

Thanks.

I've looked at all the on-line reports I could find...and, as far as I can tell, the problems with that year for Dodge was for the Ram 1500, not the 2500. Maybe a beefier tranny in the 2500?

Your talking to a mechanic who has seen it first hand. Besides the f150 is a great deal and the values of the f150s are rising the 99 ram is going down.... Value wise f150 as far as the up keep the 150 is super cheap and easy to care for.

Thanks for your input. Appreciate it! Out of curiosity, how many of the Ram 1999 2500 tranny's have you worked on compared to the 1999 1500 tranny? Are they the same trans or different?

You want your vehicle to last? And you are considering a dodge? Are you high?

Lol. Sorry. My brother has been through 3 dodge trucks in the past 6 years. He is on his fourth now and just doesn't want to admit to himself that it is ****.
