How many miles on the current engine?
And the 300-325 Hp mark, is that at the wheels or the crank?

I rebuilt it last summer it has 15000 on it now but as of this weekend I'm replacing the crank I had a thrust bearing go bad that was fun trouble shooting it sounded like the flywheel was rubbing so we pulled the trans to find the crank moving about 1\4 of a inch this is the last rebuilt that block will see I have another I will be rebuilding hope to but the hp to the wheels don't know if I could get a 65 coupe to stick but it would be fun to drive the 2nd block will have to be bored so that will go over 30
My biggest question is the stock intake and a cam some are telling me to go carb others say stick with the EFI

So wait I'm kinda confused.. Is the engine your wanting to build for this bare? Or the 15k mile engine?

Either way 300 to the wheels ain't gonna happen on 2k dollars. Later I'll post some stuff you can do to get close.. But I'm on phone right now too hard to type..

If you "rebuilt" the engine 15000 miles ago and the crank is 1/4 inch sloppy then you did something wrong.
Building a reliable 302 with 300+ hp is not happining for $2000. Even bolting on new heads will cost at least $1200.
If you want to do a cheapo refresh of your non-damaged engine that would be about $800 if you did the work.

I'm ready to build I just bought a 99 explorer motor putting a e303 cam in it the heads are going to be cleaned up a little bit I'm having a 3 angle valve job done I'm going to try a clean up on the ports just enough to get the casting marks gone the exhaust I plan on port matching the exhaust gaskets as of now I don't have any headers still looking 1st question do I need to replace the roller lifters if nothing is wrong with them what other parts should I replace I'm leaving the bottom alone expect the oil pump that is being replaced with a high flow

Don't put a Ecam in it for a truck.. They're terrible in 302s for trucks.. There are much better options..
