I didn't read where you give it gass, and it stalls. Pickup coil in the distributor since you replaced the module. Problem with this is you have to remove the shaft and lower gear to put this in. It's a real bear. Easier to swap the distributor, so that's how I would do the repair.

What are the symptoms of a bad pickup coil?Engine stalling. One of the first symptoms of a bad ignition pickup is an engine that stalls. An old or failing ignition pickup may cut out signal intermittently, which may cause the engine to stall. The engine may suddenly just shut off, almost as if the key had been turned off

I’ll look into buying a whole new distributor or should a distributor from like a pick and pull junkyard be ok?

$57 for a reman on rock auto. Remember it has to come from a 302, not a 351. Different sized shaft sizes. I don't see much problem using an old dist, if it cures the issue.

Do you think maybe replacing the cap and the rotor would fix it?

Pull codes before you start replacing parts. The check engine light should store a code. There is a thread at the top of this sub forum that tells you how to do it.

Easy to check codes all you need is a 3" piece of wire for jumper
